ABB India reported a strong Q1 CY2026 with orders up 25% year-on-year to INR 4,280 crore and order backlog rising 17% to INR 11,094 crore, providing solid revenue visibility. Revenue grew 6% to INR 3,184 crore, driven by Electrification and Motion segments, though execution was cautious with selective delivery deferrals in metals, cement, and infrastructure. Profitability, however, declined significantly: PBT fell to INR 462 crore (down from INR 614 crore) and PAT to INR 342 crore (down from INR 457 crore), with margins compressing due to adverse revenue mix, lower-margin order execution, elevated input costs, and forex volatility. Operational EBITA dropped to INR 404 crore with margin falling to 12.7% from 16.6% a year ago. The company announced a USD 75 million investment to expand manufacturing and R&D across five locations, serving data centres, metro rail, and renewables. Cash position remains robust at INR 6,042 crore.
While order momentum is strong, the sharp drop in profitability despite revenue growth is concerning for near-term earnings and could weigh on the stock despite the healthy order backlog offering medium-term upside.
