Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands Limited has disclosed a GST demand order dated March 30, 2026, issued by the Additional Commissioner of Central Tax, Bangalore-East Commissionerate, in Form DRC-07. The order, though in the name of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL), pertains to the business that was demerged into the company effective May 1, 2025. The total demand is about ₹310 crore, comprising ₹59 crore in tax, ₹24 crore in interest, and ₹227 crore in penalty, related to alleged irregular availment of Input Tax Credit and related GST issues for FY 2019-20 to FY 2022-23. The company has stated there is no impact on its financials, operations, or other activities, and believes the demand is not tenable in law. It intends to file an appeal before the Appellate Authority.
Although the demand size is large (~₹310 crore), the company maintains it will not affect financials or operations and plans to contest the order. Shareholders should watch for the appeal outcome, as a final adverse ruling could materially impact the company.
