Alfred Herbert (India) Ltd, a Kolkata-based company primarily engaged in investing in properties, securities, fixed deposits and other non-banking financial activities, reported its Q3 FY26 and nine-month results with an unmodified (clean) auditor opinion from ALPS & Co. The nine-month results were significantly boosted by an exceptional item of Rs 48,047.16 lakhs (approx Rs 480 crore), net of Rs 4,300.02 lakhs in transaction costs, from the sale of the company's immovable property at Whitefield, Bengaluru, booked in Q1 FY26. During Q3, the company partially disposed of another investment property, recognizing a profit of Rs 919.21 lakhs in the quarter and Rs 1,906.38 lakhs for the nine months. The company operates in a single business segment, so separate segment reporting is not applicable. Two wholly-owned subsidiaries (Herbert Holdings Limited and Alfred Herbert Limited) are included in the consolidated numbers.
The headline profit for the nine-month period is heavily inflated by a one-time property sale gain and is therefore not reflective of recurring earnings — investors should focus on underlying operating income and fair-value changes rather than the boosted bottom line. The clean audit opinion and absence of any going-concern flags are positive, but the dependence on lumpy property disposals makes earnings inherently volatile.
