SEBI has opened a special window from February 5, 2026 to February 4, 2027, allowing shareholders to transfer and dematerialise physical shares that were sold or purchased before April 1, 2019. This window also covers previously rejected, returned, or unprocessed transfer requests. Shareholders must submit original share certificates, transfer deeds, and required documents to the RTA (KFin Technologies Limited). Cases with disputes between transferor and transferee, or shares already transferred to IEPF, are excluded. Once transferred, shares will be credited only in demat mode and remain under a one-year lock-in period during which they cannot be transferred, pledged, or lien-marked.
This is a shareholder-friendly administrative measure enabling conversion of physical shares to demat form. It has no direct financial impact on the company or its stock price but may improve trading liquidity as more shares enter the demat system.
