Ashok Leyland reported its April 2025 vehicle sales figures. Domestic sales totalled 12,509 units, down 7% from 13,446 units in April 2024. Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle (M&HCV) trucks fell 10% to 5,915 units, while M&HCV buses dropped sharply by 28% to 1,491 units. Total domestic M&HCV sales declined 14% year-on-year. Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) were the only bright spot, growing 6% to 5,103 units. Including exports, total vehicle sales stood at 13,421 units, down 6% year-on-year, with overall M&HCV volumes falling 13%.
Weak April numbers, especially the steep 28% drop in bus sales and double-digit decline in M&HCV trucks, signal continued softness in the commercial vehicle segment. The lone positive in LCVs is unlikely to offset concerns, and this could weigh negatively on short-term investor sentiment.
