Crisil has reaffirmed its AAA/Stable rating on Axis Bank's Rs 27,775 crore existing Infrastructure Bonds, Rs 13,500 crore Tier II Bonds (Basel III), and A1+ on Rs 60,000 crore Certificate of Deposits. Tier I Bonds (Basel III) of Rs 5,000 crore were reaffirmed at AA+/Stable, one notch below the corporate rating per Basel III criteria. A new rating of Crisil AAA/Stable was assigned to fresh Rs 8,000 crore Infrastructure Bonds. Ratings on Rs 850 crore Tier II Bonds and Rs 5,705 crore Infrastructure Bonds were withdrawn as these instruments were fully redeemed. Crisil cited healthy capitalisation (overall CAR 17.1%, up from 16.6%), strong market position, and comfortable resource profile as strengths, with average asset quality as the key weakness. Gross NPA improved to 1.28% from 1.43% year-on-year, and standalone PAT grew to Rs 26,373 crore in FY25 from Rs 24,861 crore.
The reaffirmation of top-tier AAA ratings with a Stable outlook reinforces Axis Bank's strong credit profile and low default risk, which is positive for bondholders and signals continued financial strength. The new Rs 8,000 crore infrastructure bond issue expands the bank's funding options at favourable rates, while the clean redemption of older bonds reflects disciplined liability management.
