Bajaj Electricals has informed the exchanges that it received a GST assessment order dated December 31, 2025 from the Office of the Commercial Tax Officer, Chennai Central, Tamil Nadu. The order, passed under Section 74 of the Tamil Nadu GST Act, 2017, raises an aggregate demand of Rs. 936.38 lakh for FY 2018-19, broken into Rs. 292.05 lakh in tax, Rs. 352.28 lakh in interest, and Rs. 292.05 lakh as a general penalty. The demand is on account of alleged short payment of tax and disallowance of input tax credit (ITC) claimed by the company for that period. The management is evaluating legal options and plans to file an appeal before the appropriate appellate authority. The company has clarified that there is no impact on its operations or other business activities due to this order.
If the demand survives the appeal, it could result in a one-time cash outflow of about Rs. 9.36 crore for the company. Since the company intends to contest the order and has stated there is no operational impact, near-term business continuity is unaffected, though the stock may see mild short-term reaction given the tax liability overhang.
