Balaji Amines has successfully commissioned India’s first commercial Dimethyl Ether (DME) production plant at its Unit-IV facility in Solapur, Maharashtra, with commercial production starting 20th May 2026. The plant has an annual capacity of 1,00,000 Metric Tonnes using advanced technology sourced from a foreign company. DME is a clean fuel alternative to LPG that can be blended up to 8% with LPG as per newly published BIS standards. The company faced regulatory challenges obtaining permissions due to the absence of Indian Standards, requiring adoption of international standards. Initial focus will be on the aerosol industry and commercial heating applications. The management also outlined plans to expand into EV battery chemicals including DMC and NMP.
This is a positive development as the company becomes India’s only commercial DME manufacturer, potentially reducing India’s LPG import dependence and opening a new revenue stream. The stock may see positive sentiment given the first-mover advantage in a new product category.
