Balrampur Chini Mills reported a steady Q4 FY25, with consolidated revenue rising 4.84% YoY to ₹1,503.68 crore and EBITDA up 5.95% to ₹365.24 crore, while total comprehensive income grew 8.01% to ₹225.43 crore. However, full-year FY25 numbers were weaker, with revenue declining 3.19% to ₹5,415.38 crore, EBITDA falling 10.42% to ₹704.24 crore, and total comprehensive income dropping 19.12% to ₹438.84 crore compared to FY24. The sugar segment performed well on improved margins, but the distillery segment was hurt by the government's decision not to raise ethanol prices for juice and B-heavy ethanol, making diversion of sugarcane to ethanol less profitable. Sugar cane crushing was 1.4% lower YoY and recovery dropped ~40 basis points due to unfavourable weather, though the company says its decline was among the lowest in Eastern UP. The 1 million tonne export quota helped push domestic sugar prices to ₹41/kg. Management confirmed its ₹2,850 crore PLA bioplastics project is on track, with UP's bioplastics policy providing attractive incentives.
Mixed quarter — Q4 showed positive momentum with revenue and EBITDA growth, but the full-year decline in profits and the ethanol pricing headwind may weigh on the distillery segment's near-term outlook. The PLA project remains a key long-term growth lever, though it carries significant capital deployment risk.
