Balrampur Chini Mills Limited announced setting up a Lactogypsum Processing Plant at Kumbhi, Uttar Pradesh with an investment of ₹160 crore. The plant will manufacture gypsum boards using lactogypsum, a by-product from the company's upcoming Polylactic Acid (PLA) project, with a production capacity of approximately 76 lakh gypsum boards per annum. Commercial production is expected to start by December 2027. Alongside, the Board approved a preferential issue of equity shares worth ₹450 crore with promoter participation of approximately 43%, and issuance of Non-Convertible Debentures up to ₹200 crore. The PLA project capex has been revised to approximately ₹3,080 crore.
This announcement signals significant expansion into sustainable by-product utilization, which could drive additional revenue streams and improve operational efficiency. The ₹450 crore equity raise with strong promoter backing (43%) indicates confidence in the company's growth strategy, though dilution may occur for existing shareholders.
