BASF India has informed the stock exchanges that its Board has approved the closure of the Metal Complex Dyes (MCD) production line at its Mangalore manufacturing site. The MCD business is described as mostly commoditized with low strategic relevance and weak pricing power, which has hurt margins and profitability. In FY 2024-25, the MCD line generated only about Rs. 15 crore in revenue, which is just 0.1% of the company's total revenues. The closure is expected to take place in the last quarter of calendar year 2026.
This is a minor, non-core restructuring. Since the MCD line contributes only 0.1% of total revenue, the financial impact on BASF India is negligible. The move is actually positive as it shuts down a low-margin, commoditized business, which could slightly improve overall profitability going forward.
