Berger Paints has informed the stock exchange that Tax will be Deducted at Source (TDS) on the dividend to be paid to its shareholders, as required under the Income Tax Act, 1961. The TDS will apply to resident shareholders at the prescribed rate (typically 10%) if the total dividend in a financial year exceeds ₹5,000. Shareholders who have not provided their PAN or have invalid PAN will face a higher TDS rate of 20%. Non-resident shareholders will be subject to TDS as per the rates specified in the Income Tax Act or the applicable Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA).
Shareholders will receive the dividend amount net of TDS. To reduce or avoid higher TDS deduction, shareholders should ensure their PAN is updated with the company/RTA and submit Form 15G/15H (residents) or relevant tax residency documents (non-residents) before the record date.
