Bharat Coking Coal Limited reported a significant decline in coal production for April 2026. Raw coal production dropped 41.3% to 1.99 million tonnes compared to 3.39 million tonnes in April 2025. Coking coal production fell 41.5% to 1.91 MT, while non-coking coal declined 34.7% to 0.08 MT. Opencast mine production, which accounts for the bulk of output, fell 42.3% to 1.92 MT. Overburden removal also saw a steep 51.7% decline. Offtake of raw coal decreased 26.4% to 2.26 MT. The company has described the figures as provisional. Notably, underground mines showed a modest 10.9% increase in production.
The sharp year-over-year production decline could raise concerns among investors about operational issues, seasonal factors, or strategic shifts at BCCL. The company being a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, this decline may reflect broader coal sector dynamics.
