BCCL reported its provisional production data for February 2026 and the cumulative period from April 2025 to February 2026. Raw coal production for the month was 3.50 million tonnes, almost flat compared to 3.49 MT in February last year. However, cumulative raw coal production fell 14% to 31.1 MT versus 36.2 MT in the same period last year. Coking coal output was the main drag, down 15.3% cumulatively to 29.5 MT, while underground mines output plunged 30% to 0.70 MT. More worrying, raw coal offtake (sales) in February 2026 dropped 28.7% year-on-year to 2.16 MT, and cumulative offtake is down 12.5% at 30.39 MT.
Despite a stable monthly output, the sharp 14% decline in cumulative raw coal production and a 28.7% drop in February offtake suggest weak demand or dispatch challenges, which could weigh on revenue and investor sentiment in the near term.
