Bharat Forge's Aerospace division signed an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh Government to set up India's first private-sector Marine Gas Turbine (MGT) Repair, Overhaul, and indigenous Development facility at Visakhapatnam. The ~80-acre facility, located in the Andhra Pradesh Defence Manufacturing Corridor near Naval Dockyard INS Eksila, will be developed in two phases. Phase 1 includes a full MGT repair and overhaul complex with 72-hour turnaround capability. Phase 2 will establish India's first private-sector MGT development and assembly hall with indigenous development capability. The project aligns with Aatmanirbhar Bharat and is expected to create approximately 750 direct and indirect jobs. The MoU was signed in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu at the Aerospace and Defence Investment Conclave.
This strategic MoU positions Bharat Forge to capture a critical defence manufacturing opportunity in naval propulsion, reducing India's dependence on overseas suppliers for gas turbine maintenance and development. The initiative supports India's self-reliance goals in defence manufacturing and could open new revenue streams in naval R&O and exports to friendly nation navies.
