Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has informed the exchanges that its promoter — the President of India acting through the Ministry of Heavy Industries — has sold 17,42,09,815 equity shares (approximately 5% of total share capital) through an Offer for Sale (OFS) on BSE and NSE. The total consideration was approximately Rs 4,470 crore. Post-sale, the promoter's stake has reduced from 63.17% to 58.17%. The shares were allotted on February 11, 2026, and the disposal was executed on February 13, 2026. This is part of the Government of India's ongoing divestment programme in public sector undertakings.
This is a large government divestment worth around Rs 4,470 crore, which increases the supply of shares in the market and could put short-term pressure on the stock price. However, since it was executed through a structured OFS mechanism, the impact may be cushioned. Government continues to hold majority stake at 58.17%, so no change in management control.
