Birla Corporation reported a strong Q1 FY26 with consolidated revenue from operations at ₹2,454.22 Cr, up about 12% from ₹2,190.37 Cr in Q1 FY25. Consolidated profit after tax jumped sharply to ₹119.57 Cr from ₹32.62 Cr a year ago, with EPS rising to ₹15.53 from ₹4.24. Standalone revenue grew to ₹1,428.89 Cr (from ₹1,214.68 Cr) and the company swung from a loss of ₹9.17 Cr to a net profit of ₹77.87 Cr. The cement segment posted revenue of ₹2,341.86 Cr (up ~10% YoY) and the jute segment grew ~63% to ₹112.47 Cr. Operating margin expanded meaningfully from 11.95% to 14.29% on a consolidated basis, and debt-equity ratio improved to 0.49 from 0.61. On the negative side, the West Bengal government's Revocation Act 2025 has retrospectively cancelled the incentive schemes under which the company is claiming ~₹167 Cr (with partial provisions already made), adding uncertainty to receivables.
A clearly positive quarter for shareholders: sharp PAT growth, expanding margins, and improving leverage suggest the cement business is benefiting from better realisations and cost discipline. Investors should keep an eye on the West Bengal incentive receivables case, which remains sub-judice and could become a drag if the writ petition fails.
