Camlin Fine Sciences has announced two events at its Diphenol Plant in Dahej SEZ, Gujarat. First, the company has formally closed the Diphenol Plant due to severe constraints in raw material availability and pricing caused by geopolitical issues and the economic environment. The plant had already been operating at reduced capacity before this shutdown. Second, a fire incident occurred on May 23, 2026 at 11:30 PM due to leakage of high temperature thermic fluid spreading to the flaking unit. The fire was controlled within an hour. As a precaution, the adjacent Vanillin facility was also shut down. Based on preliminary assessment, the incident caused loss of approximately 30 MT of Catechol inventory and damage to equipment (flaker machine, electrical cables, measuring instruments, insulation) with estimated loss of around INR 2 crore. No serious injuries were reported. The company states operations continue normally with no material impact as Hydroquinone has been secured through imports and Catechol inventory is adequate. Insurance covers the loss.
The Diphenol Plant closure (contributing 5.06% of turnover) and fire incident (INR 2 crore estimated loss) are contained for now due to inventory buffers and insurance coverage. However, the loss of captive Catechol production may affect Aroma product margins if the plant remains shut long-term. No immediate shareholder impact expected as downstream production continues.
