Camlin Fine Sciences has disclosed two operational disruptions at its Diphenol Plant in Dahej, Gujarat. First, the plant is being shut down due to severe constraints in raw material availability and pricing caused by geopolitical issues and economic conditions. The company is analyzing options to re-purpose the facility. Second, a fire incident occurred on May 23, 2026 at night, caused by a high-temperature thermic fluid leak that spread to the flaking unit. The fire was extinguished within an hour with no injuries. The Vanillin facility was precautionary shut down but is expected to restart within 48 hours. The estimated loss from the fire is around INR 2 crore (loss of 30 MT Catechol inventory and damage to equipment), which is covered by insurance. The Diphenol Plant contributed only 5.06% of turnover (Rs. 4,352.47 lakh in FY2024-25), and the company states there is no material impact on overall operations.
The impact on shareholders appears limited as the Diphenol Plant is a small contributor to revenue, the loss is insured, and downstream production is expected to continue normally. However, the ongoing geopolitical-related shutdown and fire incident may raise concerns about operational risk management.
