Canara Bank has released its Annual Report for FY 2025-26, reporting strong performance with global business crossing Rs 28 lakh crores, up 12.11% year-on-year. Net profit grew 12.69% to Rs 19,187 crores, driven by robust advances growth of 15.30% to Rs 12,37,548 crores. Asset quality improved significantly with Gross NPA declining 110 basis points to 1.84% and Net NPA at 0.43%, while the Provision Coverage Ratio strengthened to 94.21%. The Board has recommended a dividend of Rs 4.2 per share (210% of face value), up from Rs 4 per share in the previous year. However, Net Interest Margin compressed by 22 basis points to 2.51% due to tight liquidity conditions and higher cost of funds, though Return on Assets improved slightly to 1.10%. The bank highlighted focus on RAM (Retail, Agriculture & MSME) credit portfolio and improving low-cost deposits through its CASA campaign.
The annual report shows a healthy growth trajectory with improved asset quality and capital adequacy at 17.04%, which is positive for shareholders. The dividend increase reflects confidence in the bank's profitability, though margin compression remains a concern that investors should monitor.
