Canara Bank reported Q4 FY25 net profit of ₹5,004 crore, up 33.19% YoY, taking full-year FY25 profit to ₹17,027 crore (+16.99% YoY). Global deposits grew 11.01% to ₹14.57 lakh crore and global advances rose 11.74% to ₹10.73 lakh crore. Operating profit for Q4 stood at ₹8,284 crore (+12.14% YoY). Asset quality improved sharply with Gross NPA at 2.94% (down 129 bps) and Net NPA at 0.70% (down 57 bps), while Provision Coverage Ratio strengthened to 92.70%. Retail credit surged 42.80% YoY to ₹2.23 lakh crore. The bank beat most FY25 guidance targets including RoE (21.28% vs 18% guided) and EPS (₹18.77 vs ₹16.40 guided), but missed NIM (2.80% vs 2.90% guided) and CASA (31.17% vs 33% guided). Board declared a dividend of 200% on paid-up capital versus 161% in FY24.
Strong earnings beat and significant asset quality improvement should be positive for the stock. However, management's FY26 NIM guidance of 2.75-2.80% (lower than FY25 actual) signals continued margin pressure, which investors should weigh against the otherwise robust performance.
