Capital Trust Ltd, a 40-year-old NBFC, has completed a strategic transformation from unsecured MSME lending to secured gold loans and partner-led MSME distribution. Q4 FY26 showed operational recovery with AUM growing 52% QoQ to ₹158 Cr and quarterly disbursements jumping 4.5x to ₹90 Cr. Gross NPA improved sharply from 9.1% in Q1 to 2.8%, while Net NPA remained at 0%. The company posted Q4 PBT of ₹0.13 Cr, its first profitable quarter post-transformation. A ₹23.8 Cr rights issue was successfully completed. However, full-year FY26 PBT remained negative at ₹-36.4 Cr, and Q4 PAT was negative at ₹-18.2 Cr due to an ₹18.3 Cr Deferred Tax Asset write-off. Capital adequacy strengthened to 35%, and external borrowings were reduced by 29% QoQ to ₹24 Cr, creating headroom for secured lending growth.
The restoration of quarterly profitability and sharp improvement in asset quality signal the company's strategic pivot is working. Shareholders should note that while operational momentum is positive, the full-year loss and balance sheet write-offs reflect the cost of the transformation. The clean balance sheet and high capital adequacy position the company for secured asset growth in FY27.
