Carborundum Universal (CUMI) has started commercial production at its new cutting and grinding wheel (Thin Wheel) manufacturing facility in Hosur on 16th March 2026. The new plant adds 46 million wheels per annum, more than doubling CUMI's total capacity from 45 million to over 90 million wheels annually. The facility uses manufacturing lines and technology acquired from Germany's DRONCO GmbH (acquired in 2023) and is positioned as a Centre of Excellence. The Rs. 83 crore investment was funded entirely through internal accruals, and at full capacity the plant is expected to generate Rs. 160 crore in turnover. The plant features automated SCADA-based mixing, unmanned oven handling, and has received oSa safety certification.
Positive for shareholders — capacity doubles to meet growing demand from fabrication, construction, and general engineering sectors. The investment is modest relative to company size (Rs. 83 crore funded internally) and existing utilization was already at 86%, signalling strong demand. This expansion supports future revenue growth without straining the balance sheet.
