CCI moves SC against NCLAT order quashing penalty on Grasim

The Competition Commission of India has moved the Supreme Court against an NCLAT order that quashed its 2020 penalty on Grasim Industries for alleged abuse of dominant position in the viscose staple fibre market. CCI had penalised Grasim for discriminatory pricing between domestic and international buyers and unfair conditions imposed on customers. The NCLAT had remanded the case back to CCI, observing that Grasim was not given an adequate opportunity to defend itself after the regulator differed from its Director General's findings.
