Century Plyboards has approved plans to set up a new manufacturing unit in Odisha. The company will add 120,000 CBM per year of plywood capacity (60,000 CBM each in Phase 1 by Q1 FY 2029-30 and Phase 2 by Q1 FY 2030-31) and 240,000 CBM per year of particle board capacity (by Q1 FY 2031-32). Total investment will be approximately Rs. 870 Crores (Rs. 370 Crores for plywood phases and Rs. 500 Crores for particle board), funded through debt and equity. The expansion is driven by high plywood capacity utilization at 94% and proximity to raw materials and customer base in Odisha. Particle board plans may be partially changed to MDF depending on business priorities.
This Rs. 870 Crores greenfield expansion represents a major capital outlay that will significantly increase the company's manufacturing capacity. While the long execution timeline reduces near-term impact, it positions the company for future growth amid strong plywood demand. The heavy capex may initially weigh on returns metrics but signals management confidence in sustained demand growth.
