Cera Sanitaryware has received a demand order from the Deputy Commissioner of Gudur, Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, under Section 74 of the CGST Act, 2017 for FY 2019-20. The tax authority has alleged short payment of GST and excess claim of Input Tax Credit. The total demand is Rs. 44,58,234, comprising Rs. 20,21,225 in tax and Rs. 24,37,009 in penalty. The company received the order on 30th March 2026 and has stated that it considers the demand not maintainable. Cera plans to file an appeal against the order. The company has clarified that there is no material impact on its financials, operations, or other activities.
The demand amount is small relative to the size of the company and management says it will not materially affect financials or operations. Shareholders should view this as a routine tax dispute; the stock is unlikely to see a meaningful reaction unless the appeal is unsuccessful and the amount escalates.
