Coal India reported a 9.8% year-on-year drop in total coal production for October 2025, falling to 56.4 Million Tonnes (MT) from 62.5 MT last year. Total offtake (dispatch) also declined 5.9% YoY to 58.3 MT in October. For the cumulative Apr-Oct FY26 period, production was down 4.5% at 385.5 MT and offtake was down 2.4% at 415.3 MT versus the same period last year. Most subsidiaries reported declines, with Western Coalfields (WCL) showing the steepest drop of nearly 29% in monthly production and about 22% in offtake, while only Eastern Coalfields (ECL) posted growth of about 7% in both production and offtake for the month.
The broad-based decline in both production and offtake across nearly all subsidiaries is negative for revenue and earnings in the near term. Investors should watch whether this is a one-off due to seasonal or operational factors, or a sustained slowdown, as it may pressure Q2 FY26 results and sentiment on the stock.
