Coal India reported provisional coal production of 63.5 million tonnes (MT) in May 2025, down about 8.5% from 69.4 MT in May 2024. For the April-May 2025 period, production stood at 64.0 MT versus 69.4 MT in the same period last year. Off-take (sales/despatches) was 125.6 MT in May 2025, slightly lower than 126.2 MT last year, while cumulative April-May 2025 off-take fell to 128.5 MT from 133.7 MT, a decline of around 3.9%. Most subsidiaries, including SECL and MCL, showed negative production growth, while ECL and BCCL posted mixed results. The data is provisional and shared under SEBI LODR Regulation 30.
Declining production and off-take volumes may signal softer demand or operational challenges, which could weigh on near-term sentiment. Investors should watch the full-year trajectory and any guidance updates to gauge if this is a temporary dip or a broader slowdown.
