Coal India reported its June 2025 coal production at 57.8 million tonnes (MT), down 8.5% from 63.1 MT in June 2024. Offtake (dispatches) for June 2025 stood at 60.4 MT, a 7.4% decline from 65.2 MT a year earlier. For the full Q1 FY26 period (April-June 2025), cumulative production was 183.3 MT versus 189.3 MT last year, a 3.2% drop, while cumulative offtake was 190.1 MT compared to 198.9 MT, down around 4.4%. Almost every subsidiary (ECL, BCCL, CCL, NCL, WCL, SECL, MCL) posted negative year-on-year growth in both production and offtake for June, with CCL production falling nearly 30% and NEC showing a 100% drop (from negligible base). The data is provisional and sourced from the company's ERP system.
Broad-based decline in both output and dispatches at CIL and most subsidiaries, including a sharp single-month production fall, points to weaker operational momentum in early FY26. This is mildly negative for the stock in the near term, as it may raise concerns about meeting annual targets, though the full-year picture and monsoon-season patterns will be more conclusive.
