Press Release on "CIL allays supply worries as coal use goes up"

Coal India Limited (CIL) has issued a press release to reassure stakeholders that there is no coal supply crisis despite a sharp increase in daily coal consumption by thermal power plants during peak summer. The total coal buffer available in the system stands at 168 Million Tonne (MT), comprising 47.6 MT at domestic power plants (as of 23 May), 113.5 MT at CIL mine heads (24 May) — up 10% year-on-year and sufficient for 19 days of consumption, 3 MT at transit points, and around 4 MT in transit. Additionally, CIL has around 50 MT of in-situ mine coal ready for quicker extraction if needed. Of 21 critical plants (as of 20 May), 7 source coal from CIL. CIL stated that the compression of stock levels during summer is a natural seasonal occurrence rather than a supply-side crisis.
