ESAF Small Finance Bank filed its Q1 FY26 investor presentation highlighting continued financial stress. The bank reported a quarterly loss of ₹81.2 crore (improved from ₹521.4 crore loss in FY25) but profitability metrics remain deeply negative with ROA at -1.2% and ROE at -17.1%. Net Interest Income fell sharply to ₹378 crore (down 35.8% YoY) as NIMs compressed to 6.0% from 8.1% in FY25, and yield on advances dropped to 16.2% from 18.3%. Asset quality remains weak with GNPA at 7.5% and NNPA at 3.8%, though credit cost improved to 5.3% from 7.5% in Q4 FY25. The bank has 788 banking outlets across 24 states, total loan book of ₹19,809 crore, and deposits of ₹22,698 crore, with a healthy CRAR of 22.7% (Tier I at 18.4%).
The presentation paints a picture of a bank in turnaround mode — losses persist though narrowing, but severe NIM compression and elevated NPAs in microfinance continue to weigh on profitability. Shareholders may see continued pressure on the stock until clear improvement in margins and asset quality is visible.
