Exide Industries has invested Rs. 450 crore in its wholly owned subsidiary Exide Energy Solutions Limited (EESL) by subscribing to equity shares on a rights basis. EESL is building a greenfield lithium-ion battery cell, module and pack manufacturing plant in Bengaluru, and this fresh capital will help fund that project. With this tranche, Exide's cumulative investment in EESL rises to Rs. 4,802.23 crore, though its 100% shareholding in the subsidiary remains unchanged. EESL reported a turnover of Rs. 116.89 crore and a loss after tax of Rs. 209.12 crore for FY25, with a net worth of Rs. 2,738.06 crore, indicating it is still in a heavy investment phase.
This signals Exide's continued commitment to its EV battery foray, but the subsidiary is loss-making and absorbing large amounts of capital. Shareholders should watch for execution milestones at the Bengaluru plant and the timeline to profitability, as prolonged losses and capital injections could weigh on return ratios in the near term.
