Federal Bank released its Q1 FY26 investor presentation, showing net profit fell 15% YoY to ₹862 Cr, dragged down by higher provisions in the microfinance (MFI) segment. Despite the profit dip, other income hit a record high of ₹1,113 Cr (up 22% YoY) and core fee income grew 20% YoY to ₹786 Cr. Net interest margin compressed to 2.94% from 3.16% YoY, while ROA declined to 1.00% and ROE to 10.30%. On the positive side, asset quality improved with GNPA falling to 1.91% (from 2.11%) and NNPA to 0.48%, deposits grew 9.2% YoY to ₹2.87 lakh Cr, and CRAR remained healthy at 16.03%. Total business stood at ₹5.29 lakh Cr, making it the 6th largest private bank by business size.
The stock may see near-term pressure given the sharp profit decline and margin compression, though strong capital buffers, record fee income, and improving asset quality offer some comfort. Investors should watch for further MFI-related slippages and NIM trajectory in coming quarters.
