Former US Fed chairman Alan Greenspan passes away at 100

Former US Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan passed away on Monday at the age of 100. He led the world's largest economy through multiple crises including the 1987 Black Monday crash, the dotcom boom and bust, and the September 11 attacks, serving under four US presidents from 1987 until January 2006. While once hailed as possibly the greatest central banker ever, he drew sharp criticism after the 2008 financial crisis for his hands-off regulatory stance and failure to rein in the mortgage markets.
