Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), a Defence PSU, has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Reintjes GmbH, a German company specialising in marine propulsion gearboxes. The collaboration will involve integrating Reintjes' propulsion gear trains with selected engines on ships built by GRSE's shipyard. The partnership aims to improve propulsion efficiency in warships for the Indian defence forces as well as commercial vessels for domestic and export markets. The MoU is non-binding and represents a collaborative engagement rather than a formal joint venture. GRSE, which has built over 800 platforms including 112 warships, is the only Indian shipbuilder with four distinct shipyards.
This partnership with a globally recognised marine gearbox specialist could strengthen GRSE's technical capabilities and competitiveness in both defence and commercial shipbuilding, potentially supporting future order wins. As the MoU is non-binding, any material financial impact would depend on subsequent definitive agreements and actual orders.
