GE Vernova T&D India has provided an update on a customs duty dispute. Between 2002 and 2014, the company claimed exemption from Basic Customs Duty on imported parts used to manufacture relays. An Order-in-Original was passed by the Assistant Commissioner of Excise on 25.03.2015. The company challenged this order via a writ petition before the Madras High Court, which was dismissed. The company then filed a Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court on 13.11.2025, seeking both an ad-interim ex-parte stay and reversal of the High Court judgment. The Supreme Court, vide order dated 08.04.2026 and received on 10.04.2026, dismissed the Special Leave Petition. The company has been directed to file appeal before the Commissioner (Appeals), which it intends to do on merit. No litigation against key management personnel or promoters was reported.
The dismissal of the SLP is a setback for the company, as the customs duty exemption claim now moves to a lower appellate forum. Financial impact remains uncertain pending the outcome of the appeal before the Commissioner (Appeals).
