India Ratings and Research has revised the outlook on Glenmark Pharmaceuticals' long-term bank facilities from Stable to Positive, while affirming the rating at 'IND AA' and short-term rating at 'IND A1+'. The positive outlook is driven by the company's exclusive global licensing deal between its subsidiary IGI and AbbVie for the ISB 2001 molecule, which could bring in USD 700 million upfront and up to USD 1.225 billion in milestones plus royalties. Glenmark's FY25 financials showed strong improvement, with revenue rising 12.8% to INR 133.2 billion and EBITDA margin expanding to 17.7% from 10.1%. The agency expects an upfront payment of about INR 60 billion from the AbbVie deal in Q2 FY26, which will significantly strengthen liquidity. Concerns remain around a weak US business, regulatory overhang (including a USFDA warning letter for the Indore facility), and negative free cash flows.
This is a credit-positive development that signals improving financial health and a strong pipeline of milestone-based cash inflows. Shareholders may view this favorably as it reflects business strength and a potential re-rating, though USFDA regulatory issues and US business weakness remain watchpoints.
