Godrej Agrovet has launched a new insecticide called TAKAI for rice crops under its Crop Protection business. The product uses CyclaprynTM technology developed by ISK Japan and is designed to control two major rice pests — Stem Borer and Leaf Folder — which can cause 30–40% and 20–30% yield loss respectively during severe outbreaks. TAKAI is positioned for the domestic Indian market, where rice yields remain low at around 2.9 tonnes per hectare versus a global best of 5 tonnes. The company is also working on getting label approvals for the product in maize, chilli, cabbage, soybean, chickpea and sugarcane crops. A pre-launch farmer survey cited by the company showed 77% of rice farmers value quick pest control and long-lasting effects.
This product launch strengthens Godrej Agrovet's Crop Protection portfolio and targets a large addressable market in Indian rice farming, which could support future revenue growth. The expansion plans into other crops also signal a longer-term diversification opportunity, though actual financial impact will depend on farmer adoption and pricing.
