Grasim Industries' board approved acquiring a 26% equity stake in three Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) set up for captive renewable energy at its plants. The investments are: (1) up to Rs. 45 crore in Pro-Zeal Green Power Eighteen Private Limited for a ~50 MW wind-solar hybrid project at Vilayat, Gujarat (with Prozeal Green Energy); (2) up to Rs. 20.50 crore in an SPV to be formed with Prozeal for the Balabhadrapuram plant in Andhra Pradesh; and (3) up to Rs. 3.60 crore in an SPV to be formed with GMR Energy for the Ganjam plant in Odisha. Total outlay is around Rs. 69 crore in cash, with deals to complete within 30 days. None of these are related-party transactions and no regulatory approvals are needed. The move is aimed at meeting captive green energy needs, cutting power costs, and complying with electricity regulations.
This is a small, strategic investment (under Rs. 70 crore total) aimed at securing captive renewable power for Grasim's manufacturing plants, which should help reduce long-term energy costs and support sustainability goals. It is unlikely to materially move the stock but signals continued focus on green energy transition at the operating level.
