Greaves Cotton's electric mobility subsidiary, Greaves Electric Mobility (GEM), has made its international debut by launching its flagship electric scooter Ampere Nexus in Nepal, in partnership with STC Auto Solution Private Limited. The Ampere Nexus is an E2W (electric two-wheeler) recognized by the Asia Book of Records for tackling extreme terrain, including 13,200 ft Shipki La Pass and Kolli Hills with 70 hairpin bends. The scooter features a 7-inch TFT touchscreen, LFP battery, and smart connectivity through the Ampere Connect Companion app, and is being positioned as suitable for Nepal's steep, high-altitude, and varied riding conditions. GEM plans to gradually expand its presence across more cities in Nepal. The press release also notes that GEML has filed a DRHP with SEBI in December 2024 for a proposed IPO, with 400+ dealer touchpoints and 3 manufacturing plants (Hyderabad, Noida, Ranipet) in India.
This marks GEM's first international market entry, signalling the start of an export-led growth strategy beyond India which could support future revenue diversification. For Greaves Cotton shareholders, international expansion of its EV arm is a positive strategic step, though the near-term financial impact is likely small given Nepal is a relatively new and limited market.
