Havells India's Q1 FY26 was a weak quarter due to an unexpectedly poor summer and subdued consumer demand, leading to a sharp decline in cooling products (ACs, fans, room coolers). Channel and company inventory in these categories remains elevated and is expected to take a few months to normalize. The Cables & Wires segment was a strong performer with ~20-21% volume growth and 27% value growth, supported by an additional Rs. 340 crore CAPEX commitment to double underground cable capacity by FY27. The company invested Rs. 600 crore in Goldi Solar to accelerate its renewable energy play, with the solar business (currently ~Rs. 400-420 crore) targeted to grow to Rs. 1,000-1,500 crore in coming years. Management called Q1 challenges 'transitory' and guided for revenue growth and margin improvement in upcoming quarters. Lloyd margins continue to improve structurally despite revenue softness, and switchgears contribution margins are being maintained in the 38-40% band.
Near-term headwinds in cooling products may pressure Q2 numbers due to inventory cleanup, but management's confidence in a transitory impact and clear margin improvement roadmap should reassure investors. The Rs. 600 crore Goldi Solar investment and Rs. 340 crore cables CAPEX signal aggressive growth bets, which could be positive for long-term value creation but raise execution risk in the short term.
