Hero MotoCorp, the world's largest two-wheeler maker, dispatched 305,406 motorcycles and scooters in April 2025, a sharp drop from 533,585 units in April 2024. However, retail VAHAN registrations stood strong at 5.11 lakh units (5.05 lakh ICE + 6,123 EV), with consistent month-on-month retail market share gains throughout 2025. The lower factory dispatches were partly due to a planned 3-day production halt (April 17–19) across its Dharuhera, Gurugram, Haridwar and Neemrana plants for supply chain alignment and maintenance, with normalization expected in May. The company's electric brand VIDA dispatched 7,116 units of the V2 scooter and recorded 6,123 EV registrations, reflecting strong YoY growth. Separately, Hero launched four new models (Xoom 110, Hunk 160R 4V, Xtreme 125R, HF Deluxe) in Sri Lanka and signed a 3-year brand deal with golfers Akshay Bhatia and Sahith Theegala.
The steep YoY decline in dispatches may initially look worrying, but the robust retail registration numbers indicate healthy end-demand and dealer inventory correction rather than weak sales. Investors should watch May 2025 numbers for a clearer picture as production normalizes post the temporary halt.
