HFCL's Board of Directors has approved setting up a new Defence Manufacturing Facility in Sri Satya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh. The facility will manufacture Multi-Mode Hand Grenade (MMHG) and similar defence products with a planned capacity of ~40 lakh units. The total initial capital outlay is approximately ₹230 crore, to be funded through internal accruals, debt financing, and/or proceeds from preferential issue of convertible warrants. The project is expected to be completed by December 2027. This move aligns with India's Aatmanirbharta initiative for defence self-reliance and positions HFCL to tap into growing domestic and global defence manufacturing opportunities.
This is a positive strategic development as HFCL expands into defence manufacturing with a ₹230 crore greenfield investment. Shareholders may view this favourably given the growing defence sector and import substitution policies, though the full impact will depend on execution and market uptake.
