Hindustan Copper Ltd has received an updated water tax assessment from the Subarnrekha Canal Division, Jharkhand. The department has revised the outstanding demand from an earlier claim of Rs. 216 crore down to Rs. 92.166 crore (covering the period from 2000-01 to October 2025). This comprises water charges of Rs. 46.623 crore and a penalty of Rs. 45.543 crore. The company is currently evaluating the department's revised calculation and intends to seek a waiver of the penalty component.
The revised demand of Rs. 92.166 crore is significantly lower than the original Rs. 216 crore claim, which could reduce the company's contingent liability. However, the penalty portion may still materially impact financials if not waived.
