On 11 July 2025, officials led by the Additional District Magistrate of Hooghly, accompanied by police, forcibly entered and took unlawful possession of Hindustan Motors' factory premises at Uttarpara, Hooghly. The seizure included valuable documents, machinery, equipment, licensed weapons, and a Customs Warehouse, all of which remain under government control. The company submitted formal complaints and protests to the West Bengal government's Land and Land Reforms Department. A special leave petition challenging this action was pending before the Supreme Court. On 16 July 2025, the Supreme Court dismissed the company's petition, with the order copy awaited.
This is a severely negative event for shareholders. The company has lost physical control of its primary manufacturing facility and its legal challenge has been rejected by the Supreme Court, effectively ending its ability to operate from this site.
