Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), a non-promoter institutional shareholder, has disclosed under SEBI SAST Regulation 29(2) that it acquired 4,71,90,691 equity shares (2.008%) of Hindustan Unilever Ltd through open market purchases between March 2022 and January 2026. Prior to this acquisition, LIC held 11,11,66,083 shares (4.731%) of HUL. After the acquisition, LIC's total holding rose to 15,83,56,774 shares, representing 6.740% of HUL's equity share capital. As a result, LIC has crossed the 5% disclosure threshold in HUL, a major FMCG stock. The equity share capital of HUL remained unchanged at 234,95,91,262 shares during this period.
This signals strong institutional conviction in HUL from one of India's largest domestic investors and could provide sentiment support for the stock. For retail investors, this is a notable endorsement of HUL's long-term prospects by a sophisticated institutional buyer.
