Hindustan Zinc announced its Q1 FY26 (ended June 30, 2025) production numbers. Mined metal production hit a record Q1 high of 265 kt, up 1% year-on-year. However, saleable metal fell 5% YoY to 250 kt, with refined zinc down 4% YoY to 202 kt and refined lead down 6% YoY to 48 kt, which the company attributed to scheduled maintenance activities and lower plant availability. Silver production declined sharply by 11% YoY to 149 tonnes, hit by lower silver content from the SK mine. On the positive side, wind power generation surged 24% YoY to 134 million units, and subsidiary Hindustan Zinc Alloys posted its highest-ever quarterly output at 5.1 kt.
Mixed bag for shareholders — record mined metal output signals strong long-term capacity, but lower refined metal and a double-digit drop in high-margin silver production could weigh on Q1 revenue and margins. The declines are largely explained by routine maintenance and mine-specific issues, which may ease in coming quarters.
