Hindustan Zinc's Board approved its unaudited Q1 FY26 results (quarter ended June 30, 2025) on July 18, 2025. Consolidated revenue from operations fell to ₹7,771 crore from ₹8,130 crore a year ago, a drop of about 4.4%. Net Profit declined to ₹2,234 crore from ₹2,345 crore in Q1 FY25, with EPS at ₹5.29 versus ₹5.55. Operating margin stayed flat at 38% and net profit margin at 29%. Statutory auditor S.R. Batliboi & Co. LLP issued a clean (unmodified) limited review report, but drew attention to allegations made by a short seller against some Vedanta Group entities, including HZL. Management called the allegations baseless and said no adjustments were needed. The Board had earlier declared an interim dividend of ₹10 per share (₹4,225 crore total) on June 11, 2025.
A mild YoY dip in revenue and profit may pressure the stock in the short term, but stable margins, the hefty interim dividend, and the auditor's unmodified opinion should reassure investors. The short-seller allegations remain a key overhang, and shareholders should watch for any further developments. Debt-equity ratio rose sharply to 1.19x from 0.84x a year ago, worth monitoring.
