Hitachi Energy India announced an INR 300 crore investment to expand its Mysuru manufacturing facility in Karnataka, doubling its capacity to produce EHV-class transformer-grade pressboard and laminated board used as insulation in power and distribution transformers. The expansion will introduce what the company calls the world's first fossil-free production line, replacing the existing fossil fuel boiler with 100% fossil-free process heat and electricity. The project is targeted for completion by mid-2027 and aims to serve customers in India as well as global markets including the UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Indonesia, South Korea, and South Africa. This expansion is part of the company's larger ₹2,000 crore India investment plan announced in October 2024, to be spread over 4-5 years. The move is positioned as a response to the significant demand-supply gap for transformers and components in India and globally.
Positive for shareholders — the expansion signals strong capex commitment, addresses rising global demand, and enhances the company's competitive position through sustainable manufacturing. It supports long-term revenue growth potential though benefits will be back-ended given the 2027 completion timeline.
