Hitachi Energy India and Adani Energy Solutions have successfully commissioned one of the world's largest urban HVDC (High-Voltage Direct Current) city center infeeds in Mumbai. The project injects 1,000 MW of reliable, clean power into the city, boosting external power supply by 50% and serving over 20 million people. The Kudus-Aarey connection uses Hitachi Energy's VSC HVDC technology with a compact converter station and 50 km of underground cables. Grid capacity at Aarey was increased from 250 MW to 1,000 MW, representing the city's most significant grid modernization in nearly 25 years. The project freed approximately 2 square kilometres of urban space and supports Mumbai's Climate Action Plan and decarbonisation goals.
The successful commissioning of this landmark project reinforces Hitachi Energy India's execution capabilities and positions the company as a key technology partner for India's grid modernisation and renewable integration push, which could boost investor confidence in its order pipeline.
